He said he was an atheist, so I asked him why he kept coming to the Saturday fellowships at The Hub, Within Reach Global’s outreach center.
“Of course I love that you’re here and all, but I’m curious,” I chuckled, tapping him on the back.
He admitted that at first, it was to prove that Jesus doesn’t exist.
But after about two years of consistently coming, his reasons for attending have changed. He was still proclaiming himself an atheist that night, but what he said made me smile:
“We need faith in China. Without it, we’re always just running after money. And things. And houses. And that’s all we talk about. And I can’t deny it. There’s power here. Lives are being changed.”
There’s something about China. A hunger. A thirst. I can’t seem to think of China without thinking of the song, “Love is Here” by Tenth Avenue North.
Joel 3:13 – “Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe…”
