Then God Gave Me One. W **Within Reach Global** · Oct 21, 2026, 11:21:39 AM ![](https://withinreachglobal.org/hubfs/AI-Generated%20Media/Images/Group%20Portrait%20In%20Original%20Room%20Setting.png) Before I became a Christian, I was a fortune teller. I read horoscopes and told people what their futures held. When I gave a reading, I went into something like a trance. Afterward, I could barely remember what had happened or what I had told the person. It was all hazy. Every reading left me exhausted and uneasy, and I often wondered where this ability came from and why I could see things about other people’s futures, and deep down, I don't even believe myself or the fortunes I gave.  In Thailand, some people go through a spiritual initiation ceremony to receive a spirit that is believed to guide them. I went through something like this, too. I also spent almost a year as a Buddhist monk. Some Buddhists believe that when a son becomes a monk, his parents can hold on to the hem of his robe and share in his merit, which is believed to help them reach heaven. But I never wanted to be a monk. I was just forced to do it for the merit of my parents. During that time, I was constantly sick and in the hospital almost every week. I also saw another side of monastic life, one that felt more like a job than a spiritual life. Through all of this, I was carrying something heavy. For almost ten years, my life was marked by depression and isolation. I was a very withdrawn person who avoided people, didn’t dare talk to strangers, and kept to myself. I was lonely and weighed down; I lived in isolation. Then I moved to Chiang Mai with my sister to open a cocoa shop. One day, my sister's friends stopped by the shop to talk, and I overheard their conversation. They were talking about God! I was surprised. In my experience, Buddhism in Thailand is often associated with older people going to temples. I wasn’t used to seeing young people talk about God and faith. They talked for four or five hours that day, and I heard them say that God could help someone struggling with depression. That caught my attention even more, because I was struggling with depression, too. Finally, I talked to the girl in the coffee shop and told her I wanted to know more. As she shared with me about God and Christianity, I began to understand the spiritual realm. I realized that what I had been doing as a fortune teller was not from God. It was an insight into the spiritual realm.  After I accepted Jesus Christ, my life began to change. The man who once avoided people now stands in front of others to share his testimony. God has healed many of my emotional wounds and taught me so many new things. I have been a Christian for just over a year, and the change has come faster than I ever expected. Sometimes I wonder what my life would look like if I had never said yes to Jesus. Today, I serve as part of the WRG team at the San Kamphaeng Community Center. I also join the Chiang Mai House of Prayer as a prayer warrior and help with WRG’s admin work. I am thankful for God’s love, His healing, and the new life He has given me. I know I still have a lot to learn, and I want to keep walking with God, grow.
