China’s Sex Issues

As you walk along any given street in Southwest China, you will see adult sex shops and brothels operating openly. Fifty percent of all marriages end in divorce, and the meaning of true love has been obscured.

China’s view of sex has rapidly changed in the last decade, and many young people are dabbling in premarital sex. Roughly twenty-five percent of young people who get married are still virgins. The Within Reach Global region is home to the highest percentage of AIDS cases, which is growing at a rate faster that many African nations.

Recognizing the dire sexual situation in Southwest China, in June, we hosted a seminar at The Hub on love courtship and sex within marriage. Thirty college students attended and were challenged to preserve themselves until marriage.

“I have never heard a message like this before,” many of the students said. “Now I want to be pure until I find my spouse.”

Since most of the students were not believers, it was a great opportunity to share the Agape kind of love with them as well. We are now implementing this message in all of the Within Reach Global centers.
